CBS Changes Name Of Justin Hartley Drama To “Tracker”

CBS is getting a head start on boosting the profile of its new Justin Hartley drama, now named Tracker.

Previously known as The Never Game, the series is scheduled to air during the 2023-24 broadcast season. But the network’s marketing department under President Mike Benson plans to kick off the drama’s promotional campaign this Thursday during March Madness. Watch a preview below.

“We’ve never had an opportunity like this where we picked up a show so soon so we can start promoting it this soon,” Benson tells Deadline about Tracker, which CBS first committed to piloting in September 2021. The network ordered it to series in December 2022. “There has never been more content, and we really want to make sure we are creating awareness and interest for it. When we have an opportunity to do that, like with March Madness that has an audience we think would be interested, we want to take advantage.”

Tracker follows a lone-wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw (Hartley), who roams the country as a “reward seeker,” using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family. Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise and Fiona Rene also star.

The series is based on the bestselling novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver. Although production on Tracker has commenced and there is plenty in the can to draw from, Benson doesn’t want put it all out there for viewers to see.

‘A Lot of Nothing’ Trailer Sets the Tension High in Mo McRae’s Directorial Debut

RLJE Films has released the official trailer for the upcoming film A Lot of Nothing ahead of its debut on February 3, 2023, in theaters and on video on demand. The new trailer shows a stylish film that delves into the best and worst of humanity as actor Mo McRae (The Flight Attendant, Sons of Anarchy) makes his directorial debut with the project being executive produced by two-time Emmy and Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo(The Water Man).

The film follows James and Noel, played by Y’Ian Noel (Insecure) and Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth), a happy couple living in Los Angeles who have their world rocked when they watch a police shooting on the news, only to learn it is their neighbor Brian (Justin Hartley) that was involved. What unfolds is a “highly combustible journey,” as the couple tries to figure out a way to “do something” about it. Noel ends up kidnapping Brian and tying him up in their house, which leads to a night that reflects the best and worst of humanity.

The trailer for the upcoming film shows audiences the kidnapping taking place, as well as the couple’s friends Lex Scott Davis (Rebel) andShamier Anderson (Invasion) coming over to the house for dinner, which puts them all at odds when the truth is revealed and all of their opposing viewpoints on how to address the issue are shown. As per the official synopsis of the film, the movie is set to explore how “our experiences of race, class, family, fear, love, and happiness drive our choices today.”

Justin Hartley’s The Never Game Ordered to Series at CBS

CBS is 100-percent ready to play The Never Game, having given a series order to Justin Hartley‘s This Is Us follow-up.

Based on the bestselling novel by Jeffery Deaver and on track to debut during the 2023-24 TV season, The Never Game stars Hartley as Colter Shaw, a survivalist who roams the country as a “reward seeker,” using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries — all while contending with his own fractured family.

The cast also includes Mary McDonnell (Major Crimes) as Mary Dove Shaw, Colter’s strong-willed mother; Robin Weigert (Jessica Jones, Sons of Anarchy) as Teddi Bruin, one half of the couple that runs Colter’s “back end”; Abby McEnany (Work in Progress) as Teddi’s wife and business partner; Eric Graise (Step Up: High Water) as Bob Exley, a brilliant computer scientist and Colter’s reliable sparring partner; and Fiona Rene (Fire Country, Stumptown) as Reenie Greene, a stylist lawyer who wants to be mad at Colter for a previous, mutual lapse in judgment, but against her better judgment continues to represent him.

“I am overjoyed to give the first new show order for next season to this thrilling new series led by the incredibly talented Justin Hartley,” Amy Reisenbach, the new president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “The Never Game is an excellent addition to our already successful drama lineup, and since our viewers love shows with action, intrigue, mystery and complex characters, they will love The Never Game — it delivers on all fronts.”

Hartley will also serve as an executive producer on the Twentieth Television production, alongside Ken Olin and Ben H. Winters (who respectively directed and wrote the pilot).
